If you have never had a home grown cantaloupe then you are in for a treat. The Hearts of Gold cantaloupe thrives in warm climates. Whether this means sowing seeds indoors and transplanting them after a few weeks, or sowing them directly, be sure that the soil is always warm and they are planted in an area with full sun. Their soil should be sandy and rich, adding compost can help, and have a pH level between 6.5 and 7.5. Sow the seeds one-half inch deep, with each row three to five feet apart and plant spacing two to three feet apart. As the vines grow, take note of which melons are growing successfully, and trim leaves, flowers, and smaller melons. This will promote higher production in the more successful melons. Water the vines low to the ground so that their leaves don't become damp, which can lead to disease. The melons should be ready for harvest after 80-90 days. When they are fully mature, they should also be pretty easy to remove from the vine and be turning slightly golden. Once the tendril at the base of the melon stem has dried up the melon is ready for harvest.Feed with a well balanced fertilizer be careful not to give too much nitrogen as this will cause more leaves than fruit to grow.spacing-1 plant every 2-4 ft. be sure to give them room to spread out. These are the sowing instructions. They will not be printed with orders.Additional online research is advised. The seller is not responsible for the buyer's germination success.
